“In the next week or two, I would think,” said Schottenheimer. “All signs are pointing to the next week or so, and I know he’s got some very, very good reviews, and so I think we’re getting really close.”Overshown made headlines this past offseason when he became the first player in Cowboys’ history to be granted the No. 0 jersey, also the number he wore in his days with the Texas Longhorns.“It’s just like when Superman puts on his cape,” he told DallasCowboys.com at the time. “When I put that No. 0 on, it’s really Agent 0 out there.”With a goal throughout his recovery of trying to become the 2025 NFL Comeback Player of the Year, there was never any shortage of motivation for Overshown this time around, the key phrase being “this time around”, because he suffered a torn ACL (the opposite one) in his first year with the Cowboys that also derailed the 2023 season; and before it ever got started.
That means Overshown knew the journey back to the field exceptionally well, and that aided in hitting benchmarks he was already on the lookout for as he went through the rehab process. As his return speeds toward the Cowboys’ and a defensive unit that could use his services last week and nearly every week prior, Schottenheimer is excited, but also realistic in how they’ll manage Overshown’s return — avoiding anything that could create a potential setback.
